1 & 2 day Workshops
Small classes to ensure individual attention in a well equiped studio. Beginners and more experienced artists are welcome.

1 DAY INTRODUCTION TO COLLAGRAPH
Create a collaged plate with different surface levels and textures using a variety of materials including textured papers, wallpapers, fabrics, sandpaper, tissue paper, string etc, plus glues and texture paints to build the surface of your plate. The morning will be spent making your plate after a demonstration of techniques, and the afternoon will be spent inking the plate and taking an image using a printing press.

2  DAY COLLAGRAPH WORKSHOP
Day one will be spent exploring the versatility of the collagraph technique using various methods and different mediums to construct the plate. On day two you’ll learn how to ink the plate and take an image using a printing press, going on to explore further inking techniques, using colour rubs and relief rolls which are very effective on these plates. Bring an image to work from or experiment with different ideas.

1 DAY INTRODUCTION TO MONOPRINTING

Learn to make prints using simple stencil shapes inked and layered on to a background plate. Draw, use inked up rollers, paint directly onto the plate, each print will be unique! This creative process involves simple printmaking techniques that combine drawing, painting and printmaking without extensive drawing skills.

1 DAY INTRODUCTION TO LINO CUT
This one day workshop is a great place to start if you’re new to printing or an equally good refresher. Learn how to design and cut a single block and make several different colour prints from this. We’ll explore different ways of introducing more colour from the same block. Strong imagery and decorative pattern work well with this medium.

2 DAY REDUCTION LINO CUT
Use photos or sketchbook to plan and transfer your image to the block. Cut away gradually at the lino, printing a new colour after every stage. More lino is removed for each layer and each colour is printed on top of the last, working from light to dark, the image slowly emerges. You’ll produce a set of layered prints.

2  DAY INTRODUCTION TO NON-TOXIC ETCHING
This is a safer method of etching using copper sulphate to etch into aluminium. Less harmful and more environmentally friendly than the traditional method using nitric acid, but equally effective. This two-day workshop will explore methods of applying resists, including acrylic paint, permanent marker pens, beeswax, margarine, oil pastels, wax crayons and lipstick. We will also experiment with sugar lift. Ink is then wiped into the hollows of the plate and the surplus wiped off. Dampened paper is placed over the plate and rolled through the etching press where the ink is transferred to the paper.
